Have you had that slight panic attack when you encounter plastic when you’ve just vowed to reduce your plastic waste? It’s been bugging me for quite some time now. If you need a more elementary level guidance (like I did), you might benefit from my ‘Plastic Encounter Flow Chart’.
You’ll notice that there are a couple of acceptable scenarios. Every situation is different. For example:
If your plastic encounter is a plastic straw at a restaurant and you have no need for it other than convenience and familiarity of having a straw, then you can refuse it. That’s all you need to do.
If you are in a hospital and need an IV to stay healthy, then that would be a necessary plastic that you can’t re-use or replace with an alternative.
If you are running a marathon and you know you will need to re-hydrate with water, you can prepare your own reusable bottle of water and skip the single use plastic.
If you’re like me who appreciates simple, actionable charts-this is for you. Feel free to download a high-resolution copy here.
